On the morning of May 16, 2025, in Meeting Room C – Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU), the Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (FEEE), in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Electrical Engineering Association (HEEA), held the award ceremony for the contest "HEEA-EVNHCMC accompanies fire prevention and fighting safety for electricity users; labor safety for electricity workers". The event recognized the creative and dedicated contributions of students to practical issues in the industry.
The contest was launched by HEEA, in cooperation with the Trade Union and Youth Union of Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation (EVNHCMC), from August 1 to September 30, 2024. It aimed to raise public awareness on safe electricity usage, fire prevention, and ensuring labor safety for electrical workers. With its practical theme, the contest attracted 112 entries from various institutions, including 21 submissions from TDTU—reflecting students’ strong sense of social and professional responsibility. Entries were evaluated based on six criteria, including practicality, creativity, accuracy, and community impact. At the ceremony, the FEEE, TDTU proudly announced that eight students had won awards: two First Prizes (3,000,000 VND each), five Second Prizes (2,000,000 VND each), and one Third Prize (1,000,000 VND).
The two First Prize-winning essays offered insightful and practical perspectives on electrical safety. The essay of Nguyen Dinh Duc student, titled "From Fear to Protection – My Journey Towards Electrical Safety" shared an emotional personal experience of witnessing a fire caused by an electrical short circuit. The essay emphasized the importance of small preventive habits, such as replacing damaged equipment, installing automatic circuit breakers, and maintaining safe distances when using electricity. Notably, the author proposed the development of a mobile app to help households self-check their electrical systems—an innovative idea blending technology with community safety. Meanwhile, Nguyen Ngoc Thanh Van’s essay with topic "Assessment of Causes and Risks of Electrical Fires in Households Due to Unsafe Device Usage" focused on researching and analyzing common causes of electrical fires, such as poor-quality devices, incorrect installation, and lack of user knowledge. The author suggested practical solutions like regular inspections and maintenance, and enhancing public education on electrical safety. Her essay was praised for its scientific approach, logical structure, and contribution to community awareness. Besides, the five Second Prizes were awarded to: Le Bao Loc – Electrical Safety in Solar Power Systems, Truong Thi Yen Nhi – Electrical Safety in Everyday Life, Nguyen Minh Khoa – Wire Selection and Fire Prevention in Households, Vo Tan Thanh – Community Responsibility in Using Electricity, Phan Thanh Liem – Electrical Safety in Household Appliances. And the Third Prize went to Pham Duc Minh for his essay "Electrical Safety: Preventing Fires Caused by Electrical Devices".
The ceremony honored outstanding individuals and helped spread a sense of responsibility and community awareness within the academic environment. The contest not only offered students an opportunity to apply their practical knowledge, but also served as an important stepping stone in their journey to becoming skilled, dedicated electrical engineers.
