On the afternoon of September 19, 2025, the VietFuture 2025 Award Ceremony took place at the QUEEN PLAZAR convention center with the participation of many individuals and research groups from across the country. Among them, the First Prize was awarded to the student team of Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) for the project “Unmanned aerial vehicle integrating multispectral sensors and IoT for measuring and mapping agricultural soil salinity in the Mekong Delta.”
The project applies UAVs to large-scale field surveys, integrating multispectral sensors together with EC, temperature, and humidity probes to collect real-time on-site data. The data are synchronized to a cloud platform and processed using regression and clustering models to estimate soil salinity (EC), delineate salinity risk zones, and visualize results on a WebGIS map that supports farmers’ decision-making.
The judging panel highly appreciated the project’s practicality in directly addressing saltwater intrusion in the Mekong Delta, and recognized the team’s capability to implement an end-to-end system from the UAV platform and sensor chain to communications, data processing, and dashboard. This result affirms the Faculty and TDTU’s training orientation closely linked to research and application, encouraging students to approach social challenges with technological solutions.
The success of URLAB – Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, TDTU at VietFuture 2025 not only demonstrates students’ applied research capacity but also enhances the University’s academic reputation in digital agriculture. It serves as a motivation for future cohorts to nurture their passion for scientific research, expand partnerships with industry and localities, and bring UAV–IoT solutions from lab to field, thereby contributing to the growing prestige of the Faculty and Ton Duc Thang University.
