Abstract

The paper deals with analysis of effect of inverter switching frequency on pulse width modulation (PWM) direct torque controlled permanent magnet synchronous motor drive. At first, a drive structure of direct torque control utilizing pulse width modulation is proposed. Next, the sinusoidal PWM (SPWM) and space vector PWM (SVPWM) techniques are described. Simulations with two PWM techniques at wide range of switching frequency are carried out. In order to evaluate the performance of two PWM techniques including ripples of the motor speed, integral of the absolute value of speed error, integral of time multiplied by the absolute value of speed error, total harmonic distortion of stator current is employed. The results confirm that the SVPWM gives more expected characteristics than the SPWM.
