Abstract

The study presents a practical solution to an optimal generation cooperation problem consisting of wind power plants (WPs), hydropower plants (HPs), and thermal power plants (TPs) using the Coot optimization algorithm (COOA) and Osprey optimization algorithm (OOA). This complex system is constrained by reservoir level and water outflow of hydropower plants as well as power generation and generation cost of wind power plants are uncertainly related to wind speed. The objective of this problem is to reduce the cost of electricity generation for thermal power plants and wind power plants while satisfying all operational constraints of the power system. The Coot optimization algorithm and Osprey optimization algorithm have been applied on two test systems over twenty-four-hour optimal scheduling. Obtained results show that using the Coot optimization algorithm can produce electricity at a lower cost than that of Osprey optimization algorithm as well as other referenced methods.
