List of student research project (2017-2018)

Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering always encourages and support students to involve in scientific research in order to apply knowledge to reality and create real products.

Here are the list of student research projects in 2017-2018

1.  Take a number system

The system is highly versatile and design to the Ton Duc Thang University; we develop the machine, which can read order numbers through the speakers and the number is shown on the LED display. Moreover, this machine is used for clinics, small and medium shops and easier to check out or purchase goods. The system’s economical cost, flexibility, and ease of use make it the method of choice and improve, etc and that is our research activity.

2.  Image processing based on IoT for car parking in Ton Duc Thang University

With the help of Microcontrollers and Image processing, tradition parking lots can be converted into smart one. The proposed system will also help our university to enter only registered students/ lecturers and to manage limited parking place, efficiently. Image processing algorithms, such as OCR (Optical Character Recognition) are used to check valid people. After image processing algorithm, number would be extracted out from number plate and sent to server, for users verification. In the similar fashion, server will also receive exact traffic density count at parking lot and other statistics from the microcontroller. Android Apppication can be used by the user to extract the details from server at any time on demand find the proper location for parking. This technology will help the university with large number of students/ lecturers to park their vehicle without wastage of time. This system also alert authorities when less than 10% space is available and have reserved parking for women, physically handicapped person, and pregnant women. For traffic management at parking lots, a prototype has been designed and tested. Main objective is to come up with a solution for traditional parking lots to save time and money of user.

3.  An semi-automation of smart garden watering based on 5G technology

This project proposes a design for smart garden watering system that implements ready-to-use, energy-efficient, and cost effective devices. Raspberry Pi and Arduino, which are implemented in this system is integrated with multi-sensors such as soil moisture sensors, ultrasonic sensors, and light sensors. This proposed system managed to reduce cost, minimize waste water, and reduce physical human interface. In this project, the relay is utilized to control the switching of solenoid valve. The system also managed to measure moisture of the soil and control the solenoid valve according to human's requirements. It is conducted with Graphical User Interface (GUI) using Android application to activate watering activity. Email notification is also sent to the home user for alert purposes either for normal or critical operations. An experimental setup has been tested and it is proven that the system can intelligently control and monitor the soil moisture levels in the experiment field smart garden.

4.  Glass for the blind

This research present a new smart glass system for people who are blind or have low vision. Individuals with visual disability are challenging to communicate effectively with their environment. The blind or visually impaired rely mainly on their other senses such as hearing, touch, and smell to understand their surroundings. It is pretty hard for them to go out alone, not to mention finding toilets, bus stations, restaurants and so on. Giving blind people the excellent accessibility of their environment is the objective of the smart glass system. Moreover, the device’s economical cost, flexibility, and ease of use make it and it is the aim of our reseach activity.

5.  Enhancement of mushroom productivity by using LED lamps

The team's ideas come from using the moonlighting of households to increase mushroom productivity. The goal of the idea is to address three main issues: color, illumination and number days of illumination. That problems also have large effect to mushroom. From that, my group will making a system using LED for growing mushroom, a growing mushroom plant helps mushroom product improve from 4,5g/wrap to 6g/wrap when apply this system.

6. Relay protection optimization scheduling for industrial zones by using optimization algorithm

In the study, optimizaition algorithm is applied for setting parameters of relays so that the protection of the electric systems reaches the best peformance. A distribution power network supplies electricity to an industrial zone via distribution lines coping with the high probability of faults. Thus, relay protection optimizaiton scheduling can help reduce the electicity trip in a large area by setting parameters based on constrained conditions.

7.  Design and construction of vertical Axis wind turbine for households

In this study, two vertical Axis wind turbines for households are designed and constructed. Then, the efficiency of the turbines are investigated by charging electricity to batteries and the full charge time is compared between the two turbines. The two turbines reach different efficiency but they are useful for households living far away national electricity power networks.

8.  Improving efficiency of solar cells

When the solar cell is obscured by clouds or leaves, the efficiency decreases significantly compared to the area covered. Therefore, remove the shadded solar cells from the system to reduce the amount of power lost. The effectiveness will be simulated by using Matlab.
